The following items are required to be able to perform the different tests:
1. Monitor or TV screen.
The monitor or screen should be in colour and of the best possible quality.
The critical element is the size. The best results are obtained when the vertical size is 1000 millimetres, as in this way the scanning distance can be 1000 millimetres and the accommodative effect is avoided. The limit is about 750 millimetres in height, below this figure the accommodative element can alter the result.
2. Red-Green glasses.
The conventional pattern is followed by placing a red lens in front of the right eye and a green lens in front of the left eye.
Their technical characteristics are:
· "The green filter in the viewing range can be defined as a band-pass filter having a transmission centred at (523+-1) nm, a maximum transmittance equal to (11.3+-0.5) % and a full-width at half-maximum -FWHM equal to (47+-2) nm."
· "The red filter, in the viewing area, can be defined as a long-pass filter with a cut-off wavelength (for which the transmittance is 50 %) equal to 626+-1 nm and a maximum transmittance in the viewing area (beyond the cut-off) equal to (71+-1) %."
· The design covers the entire field of eye movements and can be placed over the patient's glasses if necessary.
The aviator style glasses provided by the company C.O.I. srl-Via paganini, 10-20131 Milano and reference 62.041.07 Occhialino ovale Rosso/verde, meet all the requirements and allow a perfect dissociation.
The red-blue glasses that are used for 3D vision and that can be bought on different platforms are not suitable as they do not filter correctly and allow the insinuation of the image in both eyes.
3. Armchair.
The chair should be an office chair with a headrest. In this way the head can be held at that level with a Velcro strap, minimising head movements that could alter the test result.
4. Computer.
The computer can be any system running Windows 64-bit operating system or Linux 64-bit operating system.
It is important that the mouse, in addition to the usual buttons, has a central scroll wheel, as this is what controls the rotation of the witness by the patient.
The presence of a touch-pad surface facilitates the scanning work for the scanning staff.
